Day 2: Summer

We spent all day at the soccer field today, after leaving our house at 6:45 am this morning. I loved it and am exhausted!

Charlie’s team won the championships and was so happy! I was excited for him to be on a winning team this year with an excellent coach and great team. It was really fun to be on the sidelines and supporting him with Jeff and the other families.

Life is good.

P.S. I am sad today about the mass shootings in Orlando. Those families are our families. Their pain is our pain. We are One. We can make a difference in this world by spreading love and acceptance and forgiveness. Be loving. Love you. Love others. Love us. One Love. No Hate.

Personal Exam

How did you take care of yourself today?

I saw two related posts today from women I admire, that made me think about this important question.

Here’s a a quick, 4 question, happily-ever-after-today Exam:

1) Did you get enough sleep last night?

2) Did you drink enough water?

3) Did you take time to exercise?

4)Did you use time to do “nothing?”

I think these are important questions and reminders to make us think about how well we are taking care of ourselves in this busy time of living and being.

If this were my final exam (since my kids are in this space of studying for finals right now), I would have failed today, getting 25% correct on such a simple test. Ouch!

This makes me think how I need to prepare more for my test tomorrow.  How well did you do?

Be well, BeLoveRs. Take care of wonderful YOU!

Happily Ever After Today

How did you live your happily ever after today? After all, we are not promised tomorrow. So how did you make the most of your today?

This is how I think. I think that today is my best life ever and how am I going to live it up? What will spark joy?

Today I got to go for a walk with my BFF in the middle of the day, since we had to miss yoga. We made time for each other to escape our responsibilities and to go outside for a short while and to enjoy the sunshine, today.

I took my kids out to celebrate Charlie’s Student of the Month award to get bubble tea before dinner, as he requested. We took time to celebrate his gifts and he even got to sit in the front seat, a place usually reserved for the eldest. I loved just sitting with him and Juliana, sharing stories about our happily ever after day.

What else? I called my sister, I texted with my family, and made dinner and we gathered around the table. We didn’t have to go anywhere tonight and it was a gift to stay home and relax.

Today was good. I liked going with the flow and enjoying my family and friends, living the dream, one day at a time.

What’s your dream? Are you creating it? Go ahead… get started! You’ll thank yourself later for choosing to start right now.

You’ve Got Mail!

The door bell rang while we were just hanging out with friends. We weren’t expecting anyone else just then. Charlie said there was an Amazon truck parked outside. I hadn’t ordered anything recently so I was curious as to why they were knocking on my door.

It was my lucky day!  The package was for me and it was a gift from my sister! You have no idea but I LOVE surprises for no reason and today was one of those surprise kinda days.

Thank you my sister for loving me and surprising me with a thoughtful book! I can’t wait to read it and I’ve only got 10 pages left in the current book I’m reading !!

Thanks a million!! I’m already happy and haven’t even opened it up yet!

Have you surprised someone lately??

Chaperoning in Chinatown

I got to chaperone a field trip to Chinatown in San Francisco today and am thankful.

I’m thankful that Charlie wanted me to go with him. I’m thankful that he was excited to go on this trip with his classmates and I loved hearing his anticipation about possibly getting a straw hat all week.

I enjoyed the car ride with the other chaperones and was thankful I wasn’t riding the bus with all the kids.

I loved letting my little group lead and negotiate which direction we should head and which shops and sites we should visit, while I watched over all of them and kept them safe and together.

The weather was gorgeous in the city today and I loved the break in my routine.

I am thankful for my flexible work schedule that allowed me to chaperone without feeling guilty.

And I’m thankful that Charlie found joy with his new straw hat. It’s the little things worthy of celebrating!

Today was good.

How was your day? What made you feel thankful, wise one?

Namaste.

Awards

I have mixed feelings about awards ceremonies. As much as I love sharing the joys of life, awards ceremonies feel funny to me. They are not my favorite.

I am not the mom who put the bumper sticker on my car, proclaiming that my child is great.

Maybe it’s because this type of celebration is personal and doesn’t define my child to me. I don’t like the pressure, even though I have the expectation for them to be their personal best. And I don’t like singling them out. I prefer the connection with their peers and teachers and family and teams, as being a part of the whole.

I think I like the ordinariness of life and them just being, doing what they are doing and I don’t need an award as a receipt or acknowledgment of their success. And I don’t want others to feel less.

Awards measure what is tangible whereas I value more what is intangible: their character, and kindness, their ability to love others, their patience and determination to not give up and to work hard. Maybe the awards reflect some of these intangible values as well.

I do appreciate the awards and recognitions however they don’t bring as much joy as I would expect and that’s confusing to me. It feels like another one of those yin and yang moments. I am thankful for their hard work and that there is a way to recognize them, having us pause and to be present and to focus our awareness on all that is good in this moment called Awards Night.

Congratulations to all the awards recipients today! I guess I do kinda like awards after all, and you deserve the credit and acknowledgment for your good work.

Namaste.

Making Memories

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

I hope that you are enjoying making memories and celebrating this one beautiful life, feeling full of thanks for this gift called freedom, and eating some BBQ this celebratory weekend with friends and loved ones.

Thank you to all who serve and help others and who have served and helped others and work to make our world feel more connected and loved and protected.

Hold hands. Give hugs. Protect each other.

Yesterday

Silicon Valley

Yesterday, I enjoyed this beautiful view with my BFF. We saw a snake too, and that was a little bit scary.

Yesterday a friend texted me, sharing a connection from a post I shared long ago about roses and thorns. This really made me smile.

The day before yesterday, a friend brought me a gift and surprised me, because it’s not my birthday. She liked the tree poster I posted awhile back and found us a replica. I am honored.

Today. I enjoyed today because I had a special lunch date and my kids had friends over and later, when we went to the Food Trucks for dinner, we ran into more friends.

Community, connections and nature. I’d say it’s been a pretty good week so far, despite the thorns. Thank you, friends!

How’s your week going? It’s almost time for a long weekend.

Be well.
