Play and Rest

You never know what you’ll learn at the farm.

These baby goats remind us to stop and play and rest and it’s always more fun with a friend!

A little sunshine is good for the soul.

A beautiful path is right in front of us if we choose to see it.

I love the bright, orange, California poppies. What do you see that you love?

I Almost Died Today

I was filled with fear and anxiety today.

I don’t like these feelings, and although I am safe, the feelings kept overwhelming my body and I ended up in tears multiple times.

I was driving on the freeway with ML this morning when all of a sudden, the truck I was following dropped a piece of furniture off the back of their pickup truck. They were far enough ahead of me that I got to witness the table fly out of the back and the glass shattering to pieces. The round side table kept rolling down the highway right towards my car and heading to my left.  I didn’t know what to do and I was scared.  As I braked and thought to move, the table would roll in my direction and I was petrified.

I was afraid to swerve and hit someone and I was afraid to stop and be hit from behind. Everything happened so quickly and luckily I wasn’t in a hurry nor distracted. Luckily the guy behind me slowed down and and swerved around us, avoiding impact. I was thankful and mad and scared.

Luckily I avoided crashing into anything or anyone and was able to proceed. I was in shock and was traumatized but did not realize it right away.

After I dropped off ML, I continued on my way and had to pull over again to process what happened. I cried for what almost happened and was very shaken up.

I am grateful to be alive and will continue to make my days meaningful.

Be safe BeLoveRs and pay attention to your surroundings and give your loved ones a hug!

Namaste.

Love,

Adriana

Better Than a Pedicure!

This was my afternoon snack while driving the kids around yesterday afternoon and that’s only part of the good stuff.

You see these juicy, delicious, heirloom cherry tomatoes were washed and bagged and just given to me. I loved this gift!!

My BFF had been to the produce market and picked up all these treasures and wanted me to come over to chat, clean, chop, and cook together. She and I both love to cook for our families and friends and she is excellent at choosing and cooking healthy meals from scratch!  I absolutely love cooking with her and watching her whip up the most delicious meals by adding a little of this and a little of that, without really measuring.  Together we mix and taste and add our own bits to make the sum greater than the parts and it is so fun!  Usually we have four different meals being prepared at the same time. It’s a fun, chaotic and crazy kitchen and we laugh and work really fast and have the best time together.

The hardest part of cooking for me is picking out what to make and she decided that part and did all the prep shopping and I just showed up and got busy, bringing to go containers and pots and one ingredient.

I love doing something together with my BFFs and this was the perfect idea.

I can’t wait to do it again next week, but I’ll do the shopping and prep and she can come to my house this time!

I don’t know which part I liked the best. Maybe it was doing the work together or maybe it was chatting and laughing side by side, sharing stories.  I think maybe it was that she planned this activity for us and I just showed up ready to work.  Maybe it was leaving after spending time together with baskets full of prepped meals to feed my family this week. I don’t know exactly where the magic happened, but this was better than getting a pedicure together!

I am still smiling and enjoying this activity even today, and we still have food left for tomorrow and maybe the next day too.

Thank you ML! You made my day!!

GAINS – Girls Achieving In Non-Traditional Subjects – Silicon Valley

Tonight was the end of the year celebration of the GAINS Program. Juliana was one of many students who was asked to share her thoughts on the importance of the program and I was happy to see her standing on stage, sharing her ideas. She is so lucky to have this program available to her and to have the opportunity to explore careers and to network with women that are paving the way in STEM related fields.
There was a female, Indian speaker from Symantec who was a Quality Engineer. She shared the importance of her job to building quality products and talked about how she goes about doing her work to make a difference. You could tell that you loved her job and was proud of her success and she wanted to share this with the GAINS Girls. I loved hearing her passion and about her kids and how she loves what she does. She was very encouraging to the girls and shared stories about equal pay, and hiring young, energetic and enthusiastic girls and that they have super powers!!
The information below is from the SCUSD website – http://www.santaclarausd.org/community.cfm?subpage=123059
GAINS (Girls Achieving in Non-traditional Subjects) encourages and inspires young women to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) and other non-traditional career options.

Young women who participate in the program:

     •  gain a social network of exceptional young women
     •  gain exposure to career options and mentoring
     •  gain insight into their own potential for a STEM career
     •  gain confidence in making career-oriented education choices
     •  gain access to resources for getting into colleges

Through an exciting social network, students have the opportunity to hear from and talk with professional women currently working in these fields. Students have fun with their friends learning about future careers, visiting colleges, attending conferences and exploring opportunities for education.

What is the program?

Every month, GAINS girls can learn from inspiring professional women and can ask them questions about their career paths. In addition, GAINS girls participate in events throughout the year including Orientation, Success Camp, College/Career Day, workshops, project-based learning, field trips to college, business and industry, and an End-of-Year Celebration (with families).

Extracurricular activities include lectures, tutoring, internships, and job shadows.
Here is another resource to learn more about women in STEM related fields and why this program is important:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_STEM_fields
I am excited to see what Juliana decides to be when she grows up.

Yoga Mafia

Here I Am… with the Yoga Mafia in Cabo.

I love these girls and this moment for so many reasons and am incredibly happy.  Thank you SQ for choosing all of us to be with you on this yoga retreat.

These women are amazingly strong, kind, fit, funny, gorgeous and just awesome! They are fiercely supportive of one another and work hard and are passionate about yoga and having a good time together in the most relaxed way.  I LOVED being with all of them for a few days in the sun again, doing yoga every day and also doing nothing together too, just being content with the stillness of being present in the same beautiful space.

Yoga is a continuous practice and we are always learning and challenging our bodies and our minds to do more and to go deeper and to rise up and to find balance. It helps us to be okay being perfectly imperfect and to not judge ourselves yet to keep pushing our own personal boundaries and limits. It teaches us mindfulness and to be present, focused on our breathe as we try to master different poses.

I am so thankful that I was able to practice with the most amazing Yogis I’ve ever seen in beautiful Cabo San Lucas. They are truly inspiring, don’t you think?

Cabo Yoga

This is what it looks like living it up in Cabo with my BFFs, in the sun, doing yoga and loving life.

My smile says it all.

Isn’t she amazing?  It is such a joy to watch her practice and to be with her and all the other awesome women.

I am so grateful to have been invited on this trip and am thankful that my mama came to look after everyone while I am away.

I am lucky.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Good Night

What is your night time ritual? Do you have one?

I’m looking to shake mine up a bit.

Do you sit on the couch? Eat? Read? Play on your computer? Workout? Shower? Have salty or sweet snacks? Maybe a bowl of cereal? Drink wine or a cocktail? Sleep?? There’s a concept.

Isn’t it funny to think that everyone does it a little differently?  How many people have the same routine most nights? I’m curious.

Tonight I showered at night but usually I shower in the morning. The lighting in the shower was very different at night. I washed my face and moisturized it and it feels so clean and fresh.  I love it and have time to enjoy just being clean and refreshed before rushing off someplace or doing something. I might like this new ritual.

I blow dried my hair and got out most of the moisture before climbing into bed. I hardly ever wash my hair at night, yet Juliana likes to go to bed with wet hair. Opposites. Very interesting.  Hmm…

Typically I like to have a glass of wine with dinner, however I am changing this too. I actually am wide awake and have more energy than I usually do. I like this feeling and actually only miss the ritual of having a shared drink, more than I miss the actual drink.  So curious.

What other things do we do out of habit and not really think about? What happens if we think about what we’re doing and actively choose and decide to shake things up? This is really fun!

Think about your routines and think about changing just one for a night or two and see what you think. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Good Night. Slaap Lekker. Sweet Dreams. Namaste.
