Day 293: What Makes You Happy?

How much of your day do you get to spend doing things you love? What makes you happy and are you making time for those things?

This was painted on a store window in Fussen this week and I loved the saying. It gave me inspiration for tonight’s blog…

I think it’s kinda crazy that I’ve been blogging for over a year, every day. I obviously must like it as its become something I look forward to everyday, even though some days I don’t know what to write. As I sit down to just do it, inspiration always seems to magically appear. Writing and sharing and connecting and focusing on what’s good in my little world makes me happy. Reading your comments and hearing you tell me that you read my blog and make connections with my story makes me happy. I like taking the time to reflect on the days of my life as they swirl by, and I plan to turn my blog into a book when I’m done…so that I can taste life twice!

What do you love to do? What makes you happy every day? What would you do if you could do anything you wanted? I think we have to dream like that to make our dreams become reality. And I think it works!! If we are realistic with our expectations, we can find peace and joy every day. Some things that make us most happy are very simple, and some things take more time or money, but I bet most things that make us happy are attainable daily.

Today I didn’t feel good again (headaches and GERD) so I enjoyed staying home and resting all day, until it was time to see Charlie’s open class music show. Even though I didn’t feel good, I enjoyed seeing his passionate teacher and his class and his little body playing and smiling and laughing with his friends. I loved sitting next to my friends and watching hem enjoy their kids as well. And Jen’s baby made my day when she reached up and wanted to come sit on my lap and be with me. These things make me happy!

  1. Reading your blog is just one of the many things that makes me happy. Another is enjoying the Humboldt Eagle Cam of an eagle’s nest up in Humboldt County. I will send you the website. Just watched the father eagle bring in a fish and those two little eaglets being fed by the mother eagle. Dad took off to go do some more hunting. One fish is not enough for these growing “children.”
Looks like your vacation in Germany was wonderful!

  2. Hi Toots: What makes me happy? I am a very lucky man because I have many things that make me very happy. For starters, waking up in the morning and seeing your beautiful mom in the family room, watching TV and drinking her usual cup of coffee. She always greets me with a radiant smile and is always ready to play logic games right after breakfast. I enjoy looking out over the patio and seeing the beautiful day presenting itself. I am forunate to have several grandchildren that I get to love and play with on a regular basis. I am never bored. I have so many hobbies (mountain and road bike riding, playing handball, going to the gym, motorcyling, walking in the park, camping, kayaking, baking cookies and bread, etc etc) that each day seems to fly by. In addition I love teaching college and helping the students learn difficult math concepts.

    • Dad – you’re a great role model! I love that you love your life, your wife, your family and that you’re fulfilled. I love that you help others all the time and serve our youth at college. I love that you find joy every day. You make me happy. Can’t wait to see you and mom this summer and to spend time together again. I love you!

    • Yes, it is called the Orf method. I was so impressed by his ability to get the kids to follow him and to play along. There is a separate music teacher that I believe they see once a week. When his homeroom teacher asked the class how learning was different in music than in her class, the kids commented how they liked music better because they were moving and more active and it was more fun than just sitting and writing. I thought that was a cool insight. The school also teaches and incorporates values into the learning process for every subject, and the kids have to reflect and connect the values to how and what they are learning. So cool!!

  3. Hi Adriana, I love your blog! It’s so funny we were just talking about what makes us happy. What makes me happy??? My family makes me happy. Waking up each morning to my husband, 2 boys and my big goofy chocolate lab. πŸ™‚ The sound of the boys giggling and Chewy’s tail wagging. Simple pleasures make me really happy. Lunch or coffee with friends and one of my favorites .. a nice cup of tea and a good book! Steve and I came across a nice quote this weekend ..”The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.”
