Day 109: Happy Veterans Day!

We celebrated Veterans Day by visiting Metz, France and Bastogne, Belgium. Here are some pictures from our visits. Jeff’s granddad was in the Metz area during WWII when he received word that Jeff’s mom was born in the United States.

Bastogne is where the Battle of the Bulge occurred and we visited this memorial site today.

Day 57: Running Together

18 Years ago I met Jeff and he mentioned he was going for a run after work.  I have always worked out and when I heard him say he was going for a run, I thought to myself, perfect – I’m going running too. I was so excited to find something in common that I could casually invite him to join me and to take up something together, you know, strategically flirting!!  I was rollerblading after work at the time, but thought, hey – I can run.  That would be fun!

So I tried out running alone first, and then casually invited him to join me one night after work . But by the time I asked him again, he said he hated running. What? What kind of line is that? I was totally mislead.   Geez… but we did run together, maybe once, because by this time I had signed up to run a 5K in Dallas. But by the time the race came around, he was done running. But my charm still worked — we just didn’t run together.  Until today.

18 years later, we went for a run together… in the drizzling rain in Holland. Before we went, he asked if I was planning to talk. Was this a pick up line?? I think I know him by now – and told him, well maybe. But of course, I want to run again with him, so I was quiet. But guess who was talking??  Hahahaha… I’m cracking myself up.

I’m so glad we went out for a run and that I invited myself. We had a great time and did something fun and athletic together, which made my day!  I think he might have enjoyed it too… I think I’ll join him with his kettle bell workout tomorrow too, just don’t tell him my plans!!  I’m sure it’ll be “quiet” and loads of fun!

Day 13: Lucky 13

When I found out we were moving, I decided I was going to do everything I’ve been wanting to do before we actually left. That has been the biggest gift of all – to actually enjoy every minute of where I am right now. And I have and I AM and I still have 12 more days to soak it all in before our next adventure begins. What are you doing with your minutes?

Today was full and fun and I even got some work done! Michele and I took the kids to Sausalito to enjoy lunch on the boat, and to play with the kids on the beach. They loved finding and catching little sea creatures and moon jelly fish. Michele brought her paddle board and let me try it out. She has a Surftech board that is very stable and glides through the water. I liked trying another board and think the next board I get will be one that moves quickly through the water.

After our time on the beach, we went into town for coffee and Lappert’s ice cream. It was beautiful and sunny in Sausalito yet foggy and cold crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. I never tire of seeing the beauty of the bridge. We didn’t have a plan or schedule and the day just flowed.

Afterward, we drove back to Michele’s and she took C to a Palo Alto Play and let the kids swim after dark. I was lucky enough to drive over to Redwood City to check out the awesome new fall jewelry line from Stella & Dot. I don’t know how Blythe and team keep creating new designs that are so artistic and cool! I want them all! I loved running into friends – Vickie, Debbie and Kristen. Vickie gave me a gift, which is one of the new layering pieces just because! How lucky AM I? Thanks, Vickie!! I’m going to miss you… Debbie and Kristen too!

And to top of the minutes, Jeff was having a meeting right down the road. We were able to meet up for a quick dinner date! That never happens!! We enjoyed the break and I was able to still get back to pick up C by 8:30 pm but he was still swimming! Guess he’s enjoying every minute too. Michele and I looked over the new Stella and Dot Look Book and I just ordered my new samples! Wanna come see them? Stop by next week… They should be here by Monday!!

Life is good… Enjoy your minutes and make them count!!

Day 38: Father’s Day

Eating Malasadas (Portuguese donuts with sugar and fillings) at Leonard’s this morning.

Today I’m thankful for my dad and for my husband. Happy Father’s day to
My two favorite men!! I love you both!

Some of my favorite memories with my dad are playing hide and go seek in the house, going to get chocolate chip roll donuts at Foster’s, swimming at my Oma’s house and Grandma’s house, teasing him when he was reading the paper, body surfing at Zuma Beach, listening to loud music, riding on the back of his motorcycle, driving to Arizona in the blue van, camping at Twin Lakes, eating spaghetti and meatballs, and just loving him and being together

My favorite things about Jeff as a dad are that he provides for our family and loves us unconditionally. I love how he shares his passion for knowledge and history and education and flags and foreign languages with the kids. I love how even when he gets angry or frustrated, that he doesn’t hold grudges or hold on to anger, and is always focused on teaching the kids to do what’s right. I love that he wants to share experiences with them and to show them the world. And I’m
most thankful that he loves me, because I think this is the greatest gift he can give to his children – to love their mother. 🙂

My favorite part of today was just sitting with Jeff on Waiamanolo Beach in Oahu, watching the kids learn how to jump through the waves and boogie board and body surf for hours. Happy Father’s Day! I love you.
