Day 85 – Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

“Be patient with yourself.” – wise words from Allie

Sometimes trying to put it all together is more work than it seems. But it seems so simple, and yet we just can’t do it! Arrgghh!

That’s why I love tennis. It’s really just four simple points to win, like head, shoulders, knees and toes. 15, 30, 40, Game.  But no – it doesn’t just work like that. And you can make mistakes, but then you have to bounce back. You have to keep your head in the game and stay focused and think strategically. And you have to move your feet and be fast and be controlled and be patient and wait. And you have to have power and good form and you have to stop your feet before you swing. You need to know where your partner is at and to switch places and responsibilities and then bounce back. It’s the ying and the yang! There are all these moving parts and variables – some in your control and some not like the sun and sweat in your eyes. And you know what to do, and how to do it, but putting it all together and doing it is REALLY hard. And it takes years to master. Damn it!

Just like weight loss, or raising kids, or getting along with your partner, or planning a big move to the Netherlands! So be patient with yourself and I’ll try better too, and don’t give up! Things take time. Duh.

  1. You are so right!!!!! It is all about your attitude and how you respond to things that are challenging and unexpecting.
