Day 65: A message from Juliana

Finally!! It’s my turn to write, the suspense has been killing me! But anyway, it’s finally Friday. On Friday’s we have a late start day that starts at 9:20 instead of 8:30 so I get to sleep in a litte bit. I mean seriously doesn’t this school know that you need your beauty sleep?:) At school, I really like my teachers, some of the best I have experienced in my entire student career! I have adapted to this school just as much as my previous school and have made many friends. I made it onto the travel volleyball team and so far have gone to The Hague and also have done an overnighter with a host family in Bonn, Germany. We have many other games coming up in Belgium and Luxembourg to name two. So volleyball has been really fun. I am also involved in the school with student council which is a lot more responsibility than being a normal student. I was elected homeroom representative and meetings are every Monday for the rest of the year. You have to plan the middle school assemblies,  after school activities, events, dances, represent your homeroom and also have to be extremely involved in the school. I do enjoy being a leader in school. The weather has been getting colder, darker, and rainier each day so there’s been lots of rainbows and double rainbows!

Amsterdam Park after the rain with a rainbow. We got soaked!!

I am taking Dutch and Mandarin as my languages and currently one of my favorite classes is Dutch. I would love to be able to have conversations and become nearly fluent in Dutch by the time we make our way back to California. We have been to London, Belgium, Germany, and all over Holland, we have trips planned for Italy and hopefully France and Israel! I think it was yesterday that our car arrived and our house is feeling homie so with that, we are settling in fairly quickly and nicely. I would love to hear from you all! Miss you all and the Warm California Sun!

Yours from Amsterdam!

Juliana

  1. OK, Juliana…..you’re SO lucky to have been able to travel to all those places at your age!! I’m WAY older than you and have never even been to Europe! And Italy is on the top of my bucket list..
I’m so glad you’ve been able to make nice new friends (who will probably be friends for life, you know?) and get so involved in school. You are a born leader, and I think your ability to adapt to new surroundings and stay positive (something your mom has taught you) is just wonderful. I envy you your fun adventure and I hope you have the best time with volleyball, school, travel and friends while you’re there!

    • Hey Marcia,
Let me know when Italy comes up on your bucket list. I have been 3 times and have tons of city maps. My brother married my sister in law Michelle who is from Milan and my nephews are fluent in Italian. Alex was married at a castle in Casale Monferato which is in the wine country up north. Anyway……would love to share stories with you whenever you go.

Your parents must be very proud of you. I know your grandparents are, and so are we.
To move to another country has shown how much discipline you have. You make it sound so easy and yet I know you have to work for it like anything else in life that you want to accomplish. Did you ever think that you would like to learn another language not to mention two.
Congratulations on your academic achievements and your sports abilities.
we look forward to reading more of your blogs and also those up Christian

  5. Hi Juliana, Charlie and Christian,

It was so nice to read each one of your blog posts. I am glad you have all made new friends and are happy at your new school. We all miss you. I hope your mom let’s you write again so we can continue to enjoy hearing what you’re up to. We are supposed to have super hot weather tomorrow, in the 90s or low 100s. I bet you don’t miss those super hot days. Have fun!

  6. I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed reading your message! You are amazing and I think you are a great writer! I loved reading about your new experiences and how you got yourself involved with so many school activities. You just grab the bull by the horns, and just go for it! Good for you, honey!! You are a lot like your mama!! I am so proud of you! Love you, Oma

  7. Hi Juliana, Congratulations on being on the student council. I’m sure you’ll do a good job at that. How fun to be on the volleyball team and travel to so many interesting places. I’m glad you’re settling in and enjoying your time there.

  8. Hi Juliana,
It is fun to hear about all of your families journeys! It is great that you made the volleyball team and get to travel with them. I have been to Holland once. My mom is from Den Hague. I understand some Dutch but with Dutch, German and English in my house I mainly spoke English and wish i had really learned more languages. Miss you guys but glad that you can share your adventures with all of us here in the US.
    Love,
    Mrs. Hayes
